Jamshedpur, April 1: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has sharply criticized the Railways, questioning why trains from across the country have been consistently arriving late at Tatanagar for several years.
He has sought an explanation from the railway minister over the persistent delays.
Addressing a preparatory meeting at his Bistupur residence for a proposed dharna at Tatanagar Railway Junction on April 7, Rai also lashed out at railway committees. He questioned their role and effectiveness, asking what members appointed on recommendation were actually doing.
Roy alleged that no train reaching Tatanagar arrives on time, claiming passenger trains are frequently halted for long durations to allow freight trains to pass.
He argued that while freight operations boost government revenue, passenger convenience is being compromised. “Railways may focus on business, but public service must remain a priority,” he said.
Drawing comparisons with international practices, Roy noted that railway authorities abroad issue apologies and even compensation for significant delays.
He questioned why such accountability measures are absent in India.
He further suggested involving the Bharatiya Janata Party in the protest, stating that as an NDA ally, the party should be invited to participate. He called for wider public mobilization through meetings, social media outreach, and street-corner campaigns.
The meeting was conducted by JD(U) city president Ajay Kumar. Several party leaders, including district president Subodh Srivastava, Kulvinder Singh Pannu, Aftab Ahmad Siddiqui, Naveen Kumar, Usha Yadav, and Anjali Singh, addressed the gathering. Bhanu Rao, who arrived at Tatanagar by the Ernakulam Express earlier in the day, shared details of the train’s delay.
