Jamshedpur, May 20: Independent Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy spoke to the State Chief Secretary, urban development department secretary and director of State Urban Development Authority about the civic amenities in Jamshedpur and told them that there is no statutory municipal body in Jamshedpur and due to non-compliance of Tata Lease Renewal Agreement – 2005 provisions many settlements within and outside the lease area are facing difficulty in getting water, electricity, sanitation, drainage and other facilities.
The MLA suggested that before monsoon big drains passing through the city should be cleaned so that their water does not enter the habitable areas and the company should be directed to clean the drains.
The Chief Secretary and Urban Development Secretary said that soon a meeting of the concerned departments would be convened at the level of the Chief Secretary for this and a committee would be constituted comprising company and civic authorities so that amenities are provided to residents.
The MLA also suggested government should give a special financial grant for Jamshedpur under the head of civic amenities to compensate for the lack of income from holdings tax.
Saryu Roy also raised issue of old sewerage system causing river pollution which should be stopped and also discussed about Moharda drinking water project
