Jamshedpur, June 10: The traders of various city markets here were relieved on Friday on coming to know that they will not have to pay the increased rents of their shops with immediate effect.
According to sources, Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy, in a tweet, informed the traders that he had met the Secretary of Urban Development Department of Jharkhand in Ranchi and discussed the issue of hike in rent of shops effected recently by the state government. The Secretary has reportedly asked Roy to appeal against the hike before him. Till the decision is taken on the issue, the status quo would be maintained and the traders would not have to pay the hiked rents as of now, sources said.
Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) sent bills to traders as per revised shop rents on Thursday last.
Speaking to media, Roy said he had also discussed various other issues related to Jamshedpur with the Secretary of Urban Development Department and demanded civic amenities for the people of the city residing outside lease areas.
