Jamshedpur, March 16: Police have arrested a man for selling marijuana in the guise of running a cycle-repairing shop in Govindpur police station area late last night. The team led by deputy superintendent of police (city) Anudeep Singh recovered 1.5 kgs of marijuana from the arrested person who was identified as Jay Chandra Sharma.
According to information, the police recovered one kg of the seized marijuana which was stuffed in a polythene bag where as the remaining 500 grams were in packets, each weighing five gram. A resident of Barigora in Parsudih, Sharma would run his business of marijuana in the name of running the cycle-repairing shop near the Govindpur auto-rickshaw stand.
Superintendent of police (city) Prabhat Kumar said that the cost of the seized marijuana will be over Rs 30,000.
“Acting on a tip off we nabbed the culprit. Though the quantity of the seized marijuana is less, but the we want to spread the message that no one can escape while selling such intoxicating materials in the city. If anyone is found selling such drug, the police will detect the business and ultimately arrest the person indulged in the trade,” said the city SP while talking to the newsmen today.
According to police, the cycle-repairing shop would run like a normal shop with people coming to get their cycles repaired. “As a cycle-repairing shop was unusual to remain open till late in the night, the police suspected some foul play behind keeping the cycle-repairing shop open for so long in the night. Moreover, the people would also visited the shop without any cycle as such,” the officer-in-charge, Govindpur Rajiv Ranjan said. He added that after they receive information they decided to conduct raid.
