Gamharia, Jan 17: Panic and confusion gripped the Gamharia circle office when a man named Padmalochan Mandal arrived at the office along with his son and formally objected to a land mutation case—declaring that he was very much alive despite being shown as deceased in official records.
Officials and staff were left stunned after it emerged that Mandal had been declared dead in government documents submitted for mutation of land.
The victim alleged that in a genealogy (vanshavali) submitted by former councillor Mamta Bej, he was deliberately shown as deceased as part of a conspiracy to grab his property.
In his application to the Circle Office, Mandal stated that an attempt was being made to carry out illegal mutation of his land by falsely declaring him dead and childless in official records.
He alleged that the forged documents were prepared with the intention of illegally taking possession of his property.
Mandal said that as soon as he came to know about the alleged fraud, he immediately rushed to the Circle Office with his son to prevent the conspiracy from being executed.
Taking cognisance of the seriousness of the matter, officials of the Circle Office have initiated a detailed verification of the genealogy and all documents related to the mutation case.
Senior officials have also been informed about the incident.
According to sources, several discrepancies have surfaced during the preliminary probe, strengthening suspicion of forgery and document manipulation.
The incident has become a major topic of discussion across Gamharia.
