Jamshedpur, Jan 7: A major road accident was narrowly avoided in the early hours of Wednesday near Radgaon on National Highway-33, close to Chowka.
The incident occurred around 5 a.m. when a passenger bus- Divya Rath-, travelling from Patna to Tata, rammed into a loaded truck from behind just after crossing Radgaon.
The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the front portion of the bus completely damaged.
The truck lost control due to the force of the crash and veered off the highway, plunging into a nearby agricultural field.
At the time of the accident, most passengers on the bus were asleep.
According to eyewitnesses, they were jolted awake by a loud bang and a sudden violent jerk.
Panic briefly gripped the bus as confused and frightened passengers tried to comprehend the situation, with some screaming while others rushed to escape.
Displaying presence of mind, the passengers opened the emergency exit at the rear of the bus and safely evacuated through it.
Several passengers later said that timely use of the emergency gate prevented a potentially catastrophic situation.
Fortunately, no loss of life or serious injuries were reported in the accident.
A few passengers sustained minor injuries and were given first aid at the spot.
Following the incident, the bus driver and conductor allegedly fled the spot, triggering anger among the stranded passengers.
On receiving information, police reached the site, removed the damaged vehicles from the highway, and restored traffic movement.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are searching for the absconding bus driver and conductor.
