Jamshedpur, July 12: East Singhbhum district administration here on Tuesday busted a racket involved in the theft of LPG through illegal and unauthorized refilling of cylinders in the city. A team led by SDO Sandeep Kumar Meena seized 159 domestic and commercial LPG cylinders during a raid at Shantinagar locality of Baridih Basti.
An FIR was lodged against a gas agency proprietor and one more person under Essential Commodities Act and Explosives Act in this connection, sources said.

Sources said the raid was conducted at the premises of one Sumesh Kumar and his wife Kalyani. The officials seized over hundred commercial and domestic cylinders along with equipment used in their illegal refilling. Four vehicles were also confiscated by the team.
According to the SDO, the cylinders belong to Vimla Gas Agency, situated at Zone Number 3, Birsanagar. The agency proprietor and other accused persons were allegedly engaged in the stealth of gas from cylinders and their subsequent sale at higher rates, he said.
The SDO said a probe was on into the findings and that the culprits would be arrested soon. He appealed to LPG consumers to weigh their LPG cylinders before accepting them from the agencies concerned. In case of any anomalies, people should immediately inform the district administration, he said.
