500 players from across India to participate
Jamshedpur, Oct 21: : Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, Manjunath Bhajantri, launched the logo for the 36th National Under 9 Boys and Girls Chess Championship.
The unveiling ceremony took place within the premises of the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Saturday.
Shailendra Kumar, Vice President of the District Chess Association, extended a warm welcome to the Deputy Commissioner during a press conference.
Ajay Kumar, Secretary of the District Chess Association, shared that this event would witness the participation of over 500 young chess enthusiasts from across the country. Notably, this marks the first occasion where the District Chess Association is organizing a national competition.
The championship, scheduled from 2nd to 8th of November, will feature a total of 11 rounds of games through Swiss method. The time control for each round will be set at 90 minutes with a 30-second increment, resulting in rounds lasting between 4 to 4.5 hours.
The top 20 victors will receive a combined cash prize of Rs 5 lakh along with a trophy. Moreover, this competition will serve as a platform for the selection of winning players for the Asian and World Cadet Championships.
As for registration, the process is currently underway on the website of the All India Chess Federation, with the deadline set for the 24th of October. It is mandatory for all participants to be registered with the AICF. The event will see the presence of 16 judges, with the role of chief judge being held by International Arbitrator Paul Arokia Raj from Tamil Nadu, and Deepak Kumar from Ranchi serving as the deputy judge. Furthermore, the top 10 board games will be broadcasted live.
The Deputy Commissioner also unveiled the event’s mascot, “Diri,” representing strategic intelligence, which aligns with the essence of chess. Diri, depicted as a tiger, symbolizes the strength and strategic acumen necessary for the game. Much like a tiger on the prowl, young chess enthusiasts approach the board with calculated moves. Diri’s presence is expected to inspire young players to participate with determination and strategic focus, aiming for victory in this exciting chess adventure.
Deputy Commissioner emphasized the District Chess Association’s relentless efforts to ensure the success of this event, assuring full support from the district administration. Also present were Hassan Imam, an international handball player, Vice President of District Chess Association Shailendra Kumar, Raj Kumar Singh, Secretary Ajay Kumar, and others.
