Gamharia, Sept 3: The displaced persons of Kandra including villagers on Saturday blocked the main gate of Amalgam Steel and Power Limited. The protesters were led by former Zila Parishad member, Sudhir Chandra Mahato.

Mahto alleged that the company’s management was insensitive to the development of Kandra and surrounding areas. He that despite several memorandums being handed to the Amalgam management for development work, it remained unmoved towards the people’s cause. He said, “The management of Amalgam Steel and Power Ltd spends on the development of Gamharia under its CSR plans but continues to turn a blind eye, in spite of its (Company’s Management) assurances to develop Kandra and its nearby areas where people had given their land for the establishment of the company.”

Sudhir Chandra Mahto who was leading the protesters who blocked Amalgam Steel and Power Ltd’s gate further accused the company’s management of ignoring the hopes of the people who donated their land in expectation of employment and other facilities to such people. “The local people who had donated their land in the hope that once the company was set up, the locals would get employment and their area would be developed. They had expected that Kandra and nearby areas would see employment and the company’s management would ensure other facilities like education, medical and other amenities. Instead the hopes of these people turned out to be a damp squib.”

The disappointment stoked the anger of the people that resulted in the blockade of Amalgam Steel and Power Ltd’s gate.
