Jamshedpur joins National Clean Area Programme, gets Rs 50 cr

Jamshedpur, Jan 3: Jamshedpur has been included in the National Clean Area Programme, a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Ranchi and Dhanbad are other two districts of Jharkhand which are participating in this campaign. Central Government has made an advance allotment of Rs 50 crore to Jamshedpur to implement the ambitious project here, sources said.

Sources said Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) and Jugsalai Nagar Parishad will jointly chalk out plans to control and reduce pollution in the city. JNAC will be the nodal agency. Pollution Control Council and local municipal bodies would together take the project further. Pollution measuring machine, Air Quality Index (AQI) has been installed in Jugsalai and Mango Chowk. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with BIT Mesra for joint work on pollution measurement and control.

Team from BIT Mesra will identity sources of pollution and recommend measures to control air pollution. Dust particles in air would be reduced and pavers blocks would be installed on roads. Gree cover would be enhanced through plantation of over 3000 saplings, sources said.

“We are doing our best to control pollution and working jointly with municipal bodies in the city. Companies have already been issued guidelines by us in this regard,” said Jitendra Singh of Pollution Control Council.

Sanjay Kumar, Special Officer, JNAC, said, “National Clean Air Programme would be implemented soon. A project is being prepared with BIT Mesra.”
