Yash from Haryana clinches boys U-18 gold
Delhi’s Disha wins gold with best throw of 34.87m
Jamshedpur, May 8: Ace Indian women’s javelin thrower and Olympian Annu Rani of Uttar Pradesh bettered her own national record with a throw of 63.82m in her first attempt at the 4th Indian Open Javelin throw competition in Jamshedpur on Sunday.
Last year, Rani recorded her previous best of 63.24m at the National Interstate Athletic Championship in Patiala.
Her next set of throws were 60.10m, 56.60m and 58.13m.
Sanjana Choudhary of Rajasthan was second with a throw of 53.87m in the last attempt.
In her first throw Sanjana recorded a distance of 51.31m
Shilpa Rani of Haryana was third with a throw of 53.01m in her last attempt.
Earlier, Yash, a 17-year-old from Haryana, clinched the boys U-18 gold with his opening throw of 67.42m.
It was the second best throw by an Indian U-18 athlete since September 2019.
He followed up his first throw with efforts of 65.21, 63.24, 64.05 and 65.46m before easing off with a 57.85m final throw.
Himanshu Mishra of Madhya Pradesh was second with a throw of 66.40m in his first attempt in the U-18 category. Sanoj Yadav of Uttar Pradesh bagged the bronze with a throw of 60.92m in his last attempt.
In girl’s U-16 event, Delhi’s Disha won gold with a best throw of 34.87m. Muskan Patel of Uttar Pradesh was second with a throw of 34.30m while Tanisha Yadav bagged bronze with a throw of 31.20m.
Boy’s U-20 event saw Vivek Kumar of Madhya Pradesh clinch gold with a throw of 68.67m.
Manbir Singh of Haryana was second with a throw of 66.98m while Akash Yadav of Jharkhand won bronze with a throw of 62.78m.
