Jamshedpur, Oct 22: A jail staff allegedly molested a minor in Sitarmadera area of steel city, sparking outrage among locals.
The accused, 55-year-old Sanjay Kumar Singh, a warder at Ghaghidih Central Jail, reportedly lured the child and committed the act.
The incident came to light when the child’s behavior changed on Tuesday evening, prompting family members to investigate.
CCTV footage revealed the accused leading the child near a shop at Bhalubasa Chowk before taking her to the terrace of a three-storeyed building.
After viewing the footage, the child’s family and local residents confronted the accused at his home, resulting in a severe beating.
Attempts by the accused’s wife to intervene were met with public outrage. The situation escalated late into the night until police arrived.
Locals also threw stones at a police jeep and clashed with officers.
Dissatisfied with initial police action, some family members approached former Chief Minister Raghubar Das’s residence demanding immediate action.
City SP Kumar Shivashish and DSP Bhola Prasad Singh ordered a formal investigation.
Based on the victim’s family’s written complaint, police registered a case and arrested Sanjay Kumar Singh.
The victim is scheduled for a medical examination at MGM Hospital, and her statement will be recorded in court.
The incident has left the local community outraged, with calls for strict punishment for the accused.
