Jamshedpur hosts unique “Play for Your Caddy” golf tournament

Rajesh Bahadur wins Best Net, Pratham Choudhary claims Best Gross title

Jamshedpur, Dec 30: In a unique blend of sports and social cause, the Jamshedpur hosted the inaugural “Sukumar Jha Memorial – Play for Your Caddy” golf tournament on December 28, 2024. The event was the first of its kind, where participants competed not for themselves but for their caddies, celebrating their invaluable contributions throughout the year.

The tournament, organized by Sarajit Jha in memory of his late father, Sukumar Jha, brought together over 43 participants. Sukumar Jha, known for his zest for life and generosity, believed in empowering individuals to earn their livelihood. His motto, “Teach fishing rather than give away fish,” inspired the tournament’s egalitarian theme.

Players battled it out for six hours in this innovative format, which broke tradition by not segregating draws for men and women. The event aimed to combine sportsmanship with a meaningful cause, honoring the dedication of caddies who carry both golf bags and nerves year-round.

Jamshedpur Golf Captain cum Tata Steel VP, D.B. Sundara Ramam, actively participated in the tournament and presented awards to the winners. Also present were international golfer and coach Alan Singh, Sarajit Jha and others.

This innovative tournament not only celebrated golf but also spotlighted the caddies’ essential role, making it a memorable tribute to late Sukumar Jha’s vision of equality and empowerment.
