Jamshedpur: Artisans and craftsmen of East Singhbhum will soon have their own common platform to showcase talent and connect directly with consumers, as the district administration has launched the ‘Jamshedpur Haat’ initiative at Vishwakarma Point in Sakchi. The project aims to boost traditional handicrafts, promote self-employment, and strengthen the livelihoods of rural and urban artisans.

In a major step towards promoting traditional craftsmanship and strengthening livelihoods, Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi laid the foundation stone for the construction of ‘Jamshedpur Haat’ at Vishwakarma Point in Sakchi on Saturday. The initiative, spearheaded by the district administration, aims to provide a common platform to artisans and craftsmen of East Singhbhum district, enabling them to directly connect with consumers and access wider markets.

The haat will bring together craft communities from across the district, including the renowned instrument makers of Andharjor village in Bodam block, along with women and youth engaged in traditional and modern handicrafts. From bamboo and jute products to locally designed decorative and utility items, the haat will serve as a vibrant marketplace reflecting the region’s cultural richness.

Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi said that ‘Jamshedpur Haat’ will become a strong source of livelihood for artisans and craftsmen, giving them an opportunity to deliver their products directly to consumers and expand their reach. He added that the administration is committed to supporting artisans through training, modern technology, and marketing opportunities so that their work gains wider recognition.

Deputy Development Commissioner Nagendra Paswan, Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhagirath Prasad, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (JNAC) Krishna Kumar, and SDM of Dhalbhum Chandrajit Singh were also present during the launch of the project.

Officials emphasized that the initiative, designed in line with state government guidelines, will not only preserve traditional craftsmanship but also open new avenues for self-reliance and rural entrepreneurship.

The district administration has planned continuous interventions in areas such as training, product marketing and use of modern technology to support artisans. By combining tradition with innovation, the initiative is expected to open new dimensions for self-reliance and create sustainable livelihood options in rural as well as urban areas.

According to officials, the ‘Jamshedpur Haat’ will not only celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the region but also act as a catalyst in transforming local talent into entrepreneurial ventures.
