PM Awas Beneficiaries to Perform Griha Pravesh on May 6; MLA Saryu Roy Slams Handover Delays

Jamshedpur: More than 200 beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Birsanagar have decided to conduct their Griha Pravesh puja on May 6, citing an auspicious date for the ceremony.

The residents, currently living in rented accommodations, expressed their frustration to Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy on Sunday morning, stating that their financial situation has become dire due to paying both bank EMIs and house rent. Despite completing all payments for the units, the government has yet to hand over the keys to the allotted homes.

Saryu Roy criticized the administrative deadlock, noting that while two blocks in Birsanagar are finished and allotted, JUDCO has reportedly failed to hand over the infrastructure to the Jamshedpur Naveen Academic Council (JNAC).

Roy questioned why Jharkhand is struggling with such implementation issues when other states are successfully delivering homes. He mentioned that during his previous tenure as Jamshedpur East MLA, he conducted weekly inspections of these projects, yet the government is now obstructing beneficiaries from entering their own houses.

The MLA plans to meet with the Chief Minister on Monday to demand an immediate resolution, suggesting that the government perform an online inauguration so the handover can proceed.

Roy pledged his full support for the May 6 ceremony, offering to arrange for tents, priests, and ritual materials to assist the families. Additionally, beneficiaries raised concerns that some of the newly built houses are already showing signs of structural damage, further highlighting the mismanagement of the project.
