Jamshedpur: Girl’s body recovered, police suspect foul play

Jamshedpur: After the body of the 22-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree at a forest stretch under the Kandra police station  area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Tuesday morning, the police started probing suspecting foul play.

The dead body has been identified as Chandana Mahato, a resident of Matkamdih village of Bansa under Chowka police station. Her age is around 40 years. The husband of the deceased is Harikrishna Mahato. The dead body has been identified by her son Rakesh Mahto. Mahto, the son of the deceased, identified the dead body from the saree of the mother. On the other hand, as soon as the dead body of the mother is found, the son is in bad condition by crying. 

The police recovered the body and sent it to the Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem  after keeping it near the spot for its identification. Before that the police kept the body at a convenient place near the Lakhan Singh Ghati for over two hours but none of the visitors could identify it.

OC, Kandra police station , Rajendra Prasad Mahto said the body was found in hanging condition at Lakhan Singh Ghati along the Kandra-Chowka road.

“ We are investigating the incident. The police were informed when some workers who were near the spot while carrying out road construction work had first spotted the body. After a while, we rushed to the spot. A police party reached the spot and recovered it after carrying out an initial investigation, ” said Mahto.

The OC said this might be a case of murder but the exact cause behind the death could be known after the autopsy only.

The information about the hanging body had triggered sensation in the adjoining villages, leading a large number of inquisitive people including women to rush to the spot.
