Jamshedpur : Union minister of law and justice D V Sadananda Gowda on Saturday inaugurated online e-court facilities in Jamshedpur, along with Dhanbad and Bokaro, in a move that will bring about a revolutionary change in the judiciary system and speed up the rate of disposal of cases.
Chief Minister Raghubar Das and Jharkhand High Court’s Chief Justice Virenda Singh attended the function at Ranchi, while district judge Anand Vijay Singh was present in Jamshedpur.
The court is equipped with LCD screens for video-conferencing, two video cameras and other equipment for smooth functioning of the e-court in the special chamber. Further, the e-court will be connected with all courts and jails situated across Jharkhand through State Wide Area Network of Jharnet.
” It is revolutionary beginning. With the e-court, there is no need to physically produce hardcore undertrials, lodged in outstation jails, in court. Their trials can be taken up through video-conferencing now. It will reduce the burden on police to ensure security and logistics to transport undertrials from jail to court and again back to jail,” said Singh.
With the inauguration of e-court equipped with full video facility, the entire criminal trial systems have been enhanced to ensure speedy and cheaper justice for the poor people. As the court room is widely connected with all the jails of the State through video conferencing facility with multiple units up-to five in numbers.
Considering the regular incidents of violence during the course of production of accused from jail to court room where a number of security personnel are killed, it is expected that the system of video-conferencing in the court may give huge relief to the innocent people. In this system witnesses at three different Jails at one time can be collectively connected and the criminal trial shall be held without any interruption.
Also, production of the accused from any of the jails in person is not required as it can be ensured through video conferencing System.
One of the greatest benefit of production through this system is that the proceeding of the criminal trial shall never be adjourned on the ground that the accused could not be produced either due to non availability of the prison van or any inadequate transport system, due to security reasons or law and order problem. The absconding of accused during the production from jail to the court premises shall be totally eliminated.
In this system recording of the entire case proceedings, including depositions of the witnesses, statements of the accused, arguments of the advocates and many similar things are through electronic mode and which can be used at any point of time whenever required, without going through the hard copy records.
