JRD Tata sports complex hosts 5th Jharkhand State Karate Championship

Jamshedpur : Over 300 Karate players from 14 districts are participating in the two-day 5th Jharkhand State Karate Championship, which started at the eastern wing of JRD Tata Sports Complex tomorro
The event is being organized by Jharkhand State Karate-Do Association (JSKA).

Charles Borromeo declared open the championship in presence of guest of honour Motilal Nehru Public School principal Ashu Tiwary and officials of the state karate body. Players from East Singhbhum, Ranchi, Dhanbad, West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Hazaribag, Garhwa, Latehar, Koderma, Deogarh and Chatra are participating in it.

According to JSKA general secretary Shihan L Nageshwar Rao steps to take karate to some districts where it is not very popular. We would organize state championships in such district so that the sport gains momentum,” Rao.Another functionary of the association said that youths have taken to karate training for self defence. The training is imparted to the students. There has been a good response to the training.

A student said she and her friends were delighted to receive the training. “The karate teachers are really good.

Besides teaching the basics of karate, they are teaching us how we should defend ourselves in different situations,” she said.

Her friend Ashrita Acharya, said the self-defence training had increased her self-confidence. “The teachers have taught us how we should handle trouble-makers while travelling in buses,” she said.

Another student Rakhi R. Shet said that after learning the basics, she now wanted to learn more in karate. “My friends and I are all happy about getting the training,” she said.
