Jamshedpur forest department pulls socks to protect wildlife during Sendra

Jamshedpur, May 6: Adivasi community will be celebrating Sendra Parv on 9th May. Thousands of Sendra warriors will be reaching Dalma foothills to begin the annual hunting ritual.

In view of the event, members of Eco Development Committee and officials of forest department convened a joint meeting at Maluakocha Rest House, Dalma. The meeting was chaired by the Chief Forest Conservator Vishwanath Sah, Dalma DFO Abhishek Kumar and forest ranger Dinesh.

At the meeting, it was unanimously decided to depute seven divisional forest officers and seven assistant conservator of forest (ACF) at Dalma to prevent killing of wild animals. The officials also decided to organize cultural events in Asanbani and other villages on 8th May to involve the villagers and seek their cooperation in preventing hunting of wild animals. Football matches will also be organized in the villages to prevent villagers from going on the hunt. Committee members and villagers will be deputed on the secret routes of hunters and persuade them to quit hunting on the day of the festival, sources said.

On the Malukakocha-Tulin route, a group of 25 people would be on patrolling day and night. Four such teams would be pressed into service to keep an eye on hunters, sources said. More than 40 forest range officers, 1500 police personnel, 500 forest personnel, 250 Swayam Sevaks and 250 staff will also be assisting the department in saving wildlife during the festival. A total of 11 checkposts have been set up to prevent hunters, officials said.
