Jamshedpur, July 18: District administration here on Monday put the residents of various low-lying areas of the city on alert in view of the rising water level of Kharkai dam in Byangbil, Odisha.
Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) officials issued the alert notice to the residents through mike and advised them to leave their households and shift to safer shelters.
The MMC teams made the announcement in the areas situated close to the various river ghats across the city. In a similar measure, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) authorities too, put the people of low-lying areas on alert. The Special Officer, JNAC, Krishna Kumar, visited the riverbank areas to take stock of the current situation. He said the level of Kharkai and Swarnarekha rivers could go up, leading to flash flood like situation. He said shelter homes had been set up for the people.
In Mango, MMC has arranged for three shelter homes in view of the rising water level in rivers.
