Jamshedpur: Efforts to achieve 100% coverage under Savitribai Phule Kishori Samridhi Yojana

Jamshedpur: The district administration is making concerted efforts to ensure that 100% of eligible beneficiaries are covered under the state government’s Savitribai Phule Kishori Samridhi Yojana. In a recent review meeting, District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal engaged with district and block-level officers from the Social Welfare and Education Departments via video conference (VC) to discuss progress and provide necessary guidelines. The meeting was attended by Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar, District Social Welfare Officer, District Education Officer, all Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs), Block Education Extension Officers (BEEOs), and Women Supervisors.

The Savitribai Phule Kishori Samridhi Yojana aims to support girls’ education and prevent dropouts by offering financial assistance. Under the scheme, girl students in classes 8 and 9 receive Rs. 2,500, while those in classes 10, 11, and 12 are awarded Rs. 5,000. Additionally, upon reaching the ages of 18 or 19, students receive a lump sum grant of Rs. 20,000 to support their continued education.

During the review, District Magistrate Mittal assessed the number of applications received relative to the total number of enrolled girl students from classes 8 to 12 and those aged 18 and 19 studying in school or college. He directed that all school principals submit certificates confirming that all eligible girls have been included in the scheme. CDPOs were tasked with re-verifying girls aged 18 and 19 in colleges within their jurisdiction to ensure they receive the Rs. 20,000 grant.

The review revealed that out of a district target of 55,000, 32,784 applications had been received from various blocks. Of these, 10,830 applications have been verified and deposited with the Social Welfare Office, while 21,954 applications are still under verification at the project office level. CDPOs and BEEOs were given one week to collect applications from any remaining eligible girls and ensure 100% coverage of the scheme.

District Magistrate Mittal emphasized the importance of achieving full coverage and instructed that special measures be taken to ensure no deserving girl is excluded from the benefits. He warned that failure to meet these objectives would result in accountability for the concerned CDPOs, BEEOs, and school principals.
