Jamshedpur Bandh Over Himanshu Singh Murder Draws Mixed Response

Markets remain shut in several areas, heavy police deployment ensured peaceful protest

Jamshedpur: A bandh called by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday to protest the murder of Karni Sena youth leader Himanshu Singh received a mixed response across Jamshedpur, with markets remaining closed in several localities while normal life continued in other parts of the city.

The BJP organised the shutdown to demand the immediate arrest of all those involved in the sensational murder outside Double Down Bar in Bistupur and to protest what it termed the deteriorating law and order situation in the city.

BJP leaders lead demonstrations

From the early hours of the morning, BJP leaders and workers fanned out across the city, appealing to traders and commercial establishments to support the bandh. Protesters raised slogans against the state government and the police administration, alleging a rise in criminal incidents and demanding strict action against the culprits.

Markets in Bistupur, Sakchi, Jugsalai, Mango and several other commercial areas witnessed partial to complete closure, while vehicular movement remained largely normal. Public transport services operated with limited disruption, and educational institutions and essential services functioned as usual.

Big and small shops and business establishments in Mango remained closed as BJP members patrolled the streets and enforced the bandh in the presence of police personnel. On Dimna Road, a couple of autorikshaws plying with passengers were stopped by BJP protestors. The usually busy thoroughfares of Mango wore a deserted look. No untoward incident was reported while essential services like medical shops, ambulances, and hospitals functioned normally.

Tight security across sensitive areas

The district administration made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident during the bandh. Senior police officers monitored the situation on the ground, while additional police personnel were deployed at sensitive locations, major intersections and marketplaces.

Patrolling was intensified in Bistupur, Mango, Adityapur and other vulnerable areas. Quick Response Teams and reserve forces remained on standby to respond to any emergency, and police maintained close surveillance throughout the day.

Demand for swift justice

BJP leaders reiterated their demand for the immediate arrest of all absconding accused in the Himanshu Singh murder case and called for exemplary punishment for those responsible. They also sought stronger action against establishments allegedly linked to criminal activities and urged the administration to restore public confidence by strengthening law and order.

Despite isolated protests and demonstrations, the bandh remained largely peaceful, with police maintaining a tight vigil to ensure normalcy across the city.
