Jamshedpur: Thousands of eager denizens thronged the Jubilee Park on Friday evening to witness the grand illumination on the final day of this year’s Founder’s Day celebrations in the Steel City. The spectacular lighting and decorations were organised to mark the 187th birth anniversary of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata.
The entire city was illuminated with impressive electrical decorations as part of the annual celebration. Although the gates of Jubilee Park remained closed on Wednesday, March 4, due to Holi, a huge number of visitors rushed to the park as soon as it reopened on Thursday evening. The situation remained similar on Friday, the last day of the illumination, as citizens gathered in large numbers to enjoy the festive atmosphere before the celebrations concluded.
The massive crowd led to heavy traffic congestion on the busy road connecting Sakchi and Mango. Traffic movement remained slow for several hours, causing inconvenience to commuters and local residents.
Officials said that Friday evening was the final opportunity for visitors to witness the special lighting arranged for Founder’s Day. According to the administration and organisers, the decorative lights installed across the park would be switched off after Friday night.
Security arrangements were tightened to manage the large turnout of visitors. Thousands of people were seen standing in long queues at the Sakchi entrance even before the gates had opened at 5 p.m. Visitors were allowed entry only after security checks using metal detectors.
To ensure smooth movement of pedestrians, two-wheelers and four-wheelers were allowed inside the park premises only after 10 p.m.
The laser light show organised in front of the founder’s statue inside the park remained a major attraction. Visitors were also captivated by the colourful musical fountains that danced in rhythm with music. Families and visitors enthusiastically captured the moments on their cameras and mobile phones.
Apart from the park, major squares and prominent buildings across Jamshedpur were beautifully decorated with lights, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere throughout the city in celebration of Founder’s Day.
