Jugsalai Municipal Council reviews revenue collection

Jamshedpur, March 7 : A crucial meeting regarding revenue collection was held at the Jugsalai Municipal Council office today under the chairmanship of the Executive Officer.
The meeting was attended by Municipal Managers Sneha and Rajendra Kumar, Revenue Inspectors Naseem Akhtar and Rahul Kumar, office accountant Rajiv Ranjan, assistant Santosh Kumar, agency team leader Budheshwar Mandal, along with other tax collectors.
During the meeting, the Executive Officer reviewed the status of revenue collection and directed officials to expedite the recovery of holding tax and other municipal levies.
Emphasising the importance of revenue for developmental works, he instructed the officials to prioritise the recovery of outstanding dues to strengthen the council’s financial resources.
During the review, it emerged that several major establishments and commercial institutions have not paid their holding tax for a long period.
Prominent defaulters include Royal Marriage Hall, Golden Marriage Hall, Babu Marriage Hall, Hotel Neelkanth, Hotel Rajasthan and Hotel Gulmohar, among others.
The Jugsalai Municipal Council has already issued three notices to these establishments, but the dues remain unpaid.
Taking serious note of the matter, the Executive Officer directed officials to initiate necessary action against the defaulters under Sections 181 and 184 of the Jharkhand Municipal Act, 2011.
Section 181 empowers the municipality to issue notices and, if required, seize movable property of defaulters and recover outstanding taxes through its sale.
Section 184 provides provisions regarding tax demand notices, payment procedures, issuance of warrants and methods of tax recovery.
Officials were instructed to strictly follow legal provisions and ensure recovery of pending dues from defaulters so that municipal revenue increases and development works in the area can be accelerated.
