Jamshedpur Carnival gets colourful with Parade

Jamshedpur, Dec 19: Organised by Tata Steel, Jusco, Jamshedpur Hotelier’s Association and several other outfits, the Jamshedpur Carnival kicked off with an inaugural parade.

Colourful floats with cartoons, Calcutta based Oriental Express, a Bhangra troupe, jugglers, stilt performers and vintage cars was flagged off by Prem Ranjan, SDO (Dhalbhum) and Suresh Kumar, vice-president, Shared Services (Tata Steel) at the Jubilee Park around 2.15 pm.

Several eminent personalities of the city along with corporate honchos, members of Jamshedpur hotels and the residents of the city added colour to the Carnival parade. Those present during the flag off included Prabhakar Singh, President of Jamshedpur Hotelier Association, President of SInghbhum Chamber of Commerce & industry Suresh Sonthalia, along with other members, Jusco MD Ashish Mathur, Captain Dhananjay Mishra of Jusco, Rakeshwar Pandey, Ronald D Costa along with others officials of Tata Steel and Jusco were present.

School children dressed up in various colourful attires joined the parade making it livelier. Students also performed bicycle stunts, kucchi ghodi, the folk dance from Rajasthan, mime characters, martial arts, Manbhum chhau, folk dance and other colourful performances. The performances attracted a crowd which was already present at the Jubilee Park. For families and kids, it was a special attraction.

The vintage cars lined up were the Morris 8 saloon which ran on a four cylinder petrol engine; Austin princess A135 and Austin Sheerline A-110. Also there was the Indian Pattern Carrier MK 1-V also known as the armored cars used in wars. Army personnel from Hazaribagh performed with their band too.

The parade with over 1000 people started from the Jubilee Park and reached the Gopal Maidan via Beldih traffic light through the Boulevard road in Bistupur. The parade reached the venue at about5:15 pm.

After the parade reached the venue, performances started with Oriental Express, which is a Calcutta based Latin American band.

This was followed by the inaugural function, dance performances by social and cultural groups, also there was a dance competition among eight dance academies in the city. The winners of the competition were felicitated. Indian contemporary dancer Astad Deboo was introduced which was followed by Tanusree Shankar’s performance.

Tanusree made the audience spell bound by her dance numbers and the large crowd presence at the Gopal Maidan had an excellent evening were family members along with their children had made for an eventful day.

The first day of the carnival ended with DJ performance by the city based Groove Station. The youngsters made the gathering look lively with every one showing his moves at the DJ�s performance. The food festival by various hotels and restaurants of the Jamshedpur made for a mouthwatering evening with the winter chill.

Number of events have been lined up on day 2 of the Carnival with a dance workshop, Clash of Bands, Master Chef contest, Cycle Stunt to name a few.
