Daylight Robbery in Jamshedpur, victim attacked with chilli powder

Jamshedpur, Sept 4: In a shocking incident in Bistupur, unknown criminals looted Rs 30 lakh from businessman Saket Agarwal on Thursday morning. The crime took place near Bistupur Gurudwara, just steps away from the residence of Jamshedpur’s Member of Parliament.

According to police sources, Saket Agarwal, a local businessman was on his way to the bank to deposit cash when he was intercepted by criminals traveling in a SUV. The vehicle, reportedly without a number plate, blocked his path. Four men got down from the SUV, threw chilli powder in his eyes, and forcibly snatched the bag containing Rs 30 lakh in cash.

Agarwal told reporters that the robbers were waiting in ambush. “As soon as I reached near the Gurudwara, a Scorpio stopped in front of me. The men threw chilli powder in my eyes and took the bag. When I tried to resist, they fired shots,” he said. Fortunately, he escaped unhurt, though shaken by the attack.

Eyewitnesses reported panic in the area after the sound of gunfire. The robbers fled the scene in their vehicle immediately after the incident. Police suspect that the gang was tracking Agarwal’s movements and had carefully planned the operation.

Bistupur police, led by station in-charge, reached the spot soon after the robbery. They examined CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the culprits. “We have registered a case based on the victim’s statement and are working on all leads. It appears that chilli powder was used to disable the victim before the loot. Our priority is to trace the vehicle and arrest the culprits,” the officer said.

The incident has raised serious questions about law and order in the city, as this marks the second major robbery within 24 hours. Businessmen and residents have expressed concern over their safety, fearing an increase in organized crimes.

Police have launched an intensive manhunt and are analyzing CCTV footage from Bistupur and adjoining areas. Meanwhile, the city remains tense as news of the daylight robbery spread quickly among traders and local residents.

With Rs 30 lakh looted in broad daylight, the case has turned into a major challenge for Jamshedpur police, who face mounting pressure to bring the culprits to justice at the earliest.
