Production Paused for 3 to 6 Days
JAMSHEDPUR — The Tinplate Division of Tata Steel has initiated an annual maintenance shutdown to enhance production efficiency and machine performance. During this period, the company management has temporarily halted operations at Pickling-1 and 2, the Electrolytic Cleaning Line (ECL), and the 6-High Plant.
The shutdown for various units will last between three and six days. Technical teams will replace worn-out components and conduct essential repairs to ensure the plant meets its production targets for the upcoming financial year without interruption.
Target: 7.15 Lakh Tonnes of Production
The Tinplate Division specializes in manufacturing tin packaging products used to preserve food items for extended periods. For the 2026-27 financial year, the company has set an ambitious production target of 7.15 lakh tonnes. After a year of continuous operation, management considers this maintenance break mandatory to sustain machinery health.
Management Monitors Propane Gas Supply
During a recent event marking the start of the new financial year, former Executive-in-Charge (EIC) Ujjwal Chakraborty addressed employees regarding potential resource challenges. He noted that while propane gas stocks are currently low, the situation is not critical.
Chakraborty assured staff that the plant would not face closure due to gas shortages, as the company is prepared to source gas from other plants and is actively developing alternative arrangements.
Global Conflict Impacts Propane Supply
Ongoing global warfare and disruptions in international supply chains have impacted the steady supply of propane. In the Tinplate Division, propane plays a vital role in the coating process, specifically for melting tin, heating furnaces, and metal fabrication. Management continues to work diligently to mitigate this supply chain crisis and maintain operational stability.
