Jamshedpur, April 19: With the start of the wedding season, trains from Tatanagar Railway Station to Bihar are witnessing an overwhelming rush, leaving passengers struggling to secure confirmed tickets. Waiting lists on most trains have crossed the 100 mark, while several services are showing “No Room” status on many days.
Passengers traveling on key routes to Bihar towns such as Chhapra, Bhagalpur, and Jaynagar are facing severe inconvenience. Popular trains including the South Bihar Express, Bilaspur–Buxar Weekly, and other services towards Ara are heavily booked, making it nearly impossible to find available seats. Trains like Purushottam Express, Nilanchal Express, and Sampark Kranti Express are running at full capacity, further adding to passenger anxiety.
Extra Coaches Added to Tatanagar–Buxar Express
In response to the growing demand, the Railways has decided to attach additional coaches to the Tatanagar–Buxar Express until April 21. This move is expected to offer some relief, particularly to passengers holding waiting-list tickets in the general Chair Car category. However, commuters say the measure is insufficient given the scale of the rush.
Passengers have expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of special trains on the busy Bihar and Uttar Pradesh routes. Railway experts believe that available train rakes in the Tatanagar and Chakradharpur divisions could be utilized to run additional services and ease congestion during the peak travel period.
Special Trains for Other Routes, But Bihar Sector Neglected
While the Railways has announced special trains for other regions during the summer holidays, the Bihar-bound routes remain largely overlooked. Services such as the Santragachi–Mumbai Special, which will begin operations on April 21, are expected to complete 24 trips by July 16. Similarly, the Pune–Santragachi Special has already been scheduled, and preparations are underway for a special train between Itwari and Shalimar. The frequency of the Santragachi–Ajmer Special has also been increased.
Despite these efforts, passengers from the Kolhan region have raised concerns over the lack of additional trains to key destinations like Gaya, Sasaram, and Buxar. With a large number of migrant workers and families traveling during summer holidays and wedding season, overcrowding at railway stations is intensifying.
Commuters have urged the Railways to immediately introduce Summer Special trains on the UP–Bihar corridor to prevent chaos and reduce dependence on costly alternative transport options.
