Jamshedpur all set for Ram Navami procession, police on strict vigil

Jamshedpur, April 10: Elaborate arrangements are in place to ensure a peaceful Ramnavmi procession on Monday. The administration has deployed adequate policemen and paramilitary personnel to prevent any untoward incident. Several sensitive areas have been identified and Rapid Action Force jawans will be posted accordingly.

A total of 350 magistrates and a large number of police officers have been deployed to oversee law and order machinery on the penultimate day and on the procession day of the festival.

Tomorrow would be a day of hectic activities on the streets with akhara samities taking out the colourful procession in full capacity amid the tight security bandobast in the city.

In total 170 akharas including 30 unlicensed akharas will take out the procession with religious zeal and fervor and in the wake of the ongoing matriculation examination the administration has appealed to the akhara samities to play music in low decibels.

Nonetheless, SSP M Tamil Vanan informed in the meeting that officer in-charge of all the police stations of the district including city have been asked to pull up their shocks in the wake of Ramnavmi festival inching closer.

Moreover movement of heavy vehicles will be stopped on the day of the procession while private vehicles will be restricted in the city after 2pm.

“Though, adequate security measures have been made for the Ram Navami procession, we also appeal to the people and akhara samities to cooperate with the administration in ensuring a peaceful culmination of the nine day festival,” said Sandeep Meena, SDO, Dhalbhum.

“After directions from the district administration we have asked  the akhara committees to avoid using glass tubes and kerosene during the procession as the two items are very dangerous,” said R B Singh, senior functionary of the Central Peace Committee.

Several philanthropic persons and social and religious organisations have opened stalls selling edibles. Gates and banners of welcome were made at several places. Young and old people enthusiastically recited keertan in the procession.
