Jamshedpur, July 13: Parents of school children sat on a one-day hunger strike in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday, demanding full implementation of the New Education Policy-2020 in Jharkhand.
During this, a memorandum was handed over to the Chief Minister on behalf of the Jamshedpur Abhibhavak Sangh in the Deputy Commissioner’s office, in which a demand has been made to fully implement the provisions of the new education policy in the entire state.
Umesh Kumar, the president of the sangh said that in the provision of Section 12 (1) (c) of the Right to Education Act-2009 (RTE), the children of deprived and weaker sections should be given admission in private schools of Jharkhand state. Enrollment started on reserved seats in the entrance class.
He alleged that under the provision, children enrolled in schools have the right to get free education up to class 8th. During the implementation of the RTE Act in the state of Jharkhand, the children enrolled in the school have now passed class VIII and reached class IX. The school management related to these children are now demanding school fees.
“The financial condition of the parents of the deprived and weaker section children who have been promoted to ninth class after passing eighth grade is not such that they can pay the fees. In such a situation, due to lack of money, the education of these children seems to be hanging in the balance,’ they claimed.
Umesh Kumar said that the Government of India has implemented the New Education Policy 2020 in the whole country, but the children in the state of Jharkhand are not getting the benefit of this law. Under provision of clause 8-8 of the said law, the children of deprived and weaker sections have been given the right to get free education up to class 12th.
They demanded from the Chief Minister that the New Education Policy-2020 should be ordered to be fully implemented in the state of Jharkhand, so that they can take advantage of the said law. The children of deprived and weaker sections can get free education and complete their education till 12th without any hindrance.
