Jamshedpur, November 2. The elephant trapped in the trench of the forest adjacent to Lalbandh pond near Machadiha of Chakulia in East Singhbhum district came out of the trench after several hours.
Passed through the nearby grounds and reached Lakhan Chowk and broke the former mukhiya bike parked. After this it went to the nearby cashew forest. In the cashew forest, the elephant suddenly fell on the ground and died. There is a crowd of villagers there. The villagers are worshiping the elephant.
However, the forest department employees were keeping a watch on the said elephant since morning. Forest department employees have informed the authorities about this. The death of the said elephant is a matter of thorough investigation.
After receiving information about this, Baharagora MLA Sameer Kumar Mohanty reached the spot. Along with the villagers, he also worshiped the dead elephant. The MLA said that recently three-four elephants included in the elephant herd had come close to the high voltage electric wire near the pond located near Kamarigora of Chakulia Nagar Panchayat.
Two of those elephants died. The MLA spoke to Divisional Forest Officer Mamta Priyadarshi on telephone and directed to take necessary initiatives to save the elephants.
He said that the Forest Department should identify other elephants injured by high voltage wires and take initiative to save more.
According to Forest Area Officer in-charge Digvijay Singh and the villagers, an elephant was seen standing in a trench adjacent to the forest on Thursday morning near Lalbandh of Machadiha village of Chakulia block.

After receiving the information, the forest department team reached there. Under the supervision of forest guards Bhadu Ram Soren, Mukesh Gorai and Viplav Kumar, the elephant was somehow taken out of the trench. After coming out of the trench, the elephant walked slowly to the nearby field and from here reached the main road. During this time, former head of Jamua Panchayat Prabhash Chandra Hansda was busy parking his bike on the side of the road at Lakhan Chowk near Machadiha and watching the elephant coming out of the trench. The elephant knocked down his bike and broke it.
The death of two elephants in the last two days has become a cause of concern for the forest department. It is known that about 40 wild elephants are roaming in Chakulia block area for the last 20 days.
