Seraikela, June 27: The case pertaining to the death of Tabrez Ansari, which garnered nationwide attention and sparked discussions in the country’s Parliament, reached a significant juncture today as a hearing took place in the court of ADJ Forest, Amit Shekhar. Two of the accused in the case, Satyanarayan Nayak and Sumant Mahato, were acquitted due to insufficient evidence. However, the court found the remaining 10 accused, Prakash Mandal alias Pappu Mandal, Bhimsen Mandal, Kamal Mahto, Madan Nayak, Atul Mahali, Mahesh Mahali, Vikram Mandal, Chamu Nayak, Premchand Mahali, and Sunamo Pradhan, guilty and reserved the decision regarding their sentencing.

On June 18, 2019, Tabrez Ansari had entered a house with the intention to steal in Dhatkidih village under the jurisdiction of Seraikela police station. He was subsequently beaten by a mob and handed over to the police. Tabrez Ansari was then placed in judicial custody, but his health deteriorated while in Seraikela Mandal Jail. Tragically, Tabrez Ansari passed away during treatment at Seraikela Sadar Hospital.
The incident was initially publicized as a case of mob lynching, prompting an investigation. A complaint was filed by Shaista Parveen, the wife of the deceased, which led to the registration of a case. During the course of the police investigation, a total of 13 individuals were arrested as accused in the case. It is noteworthy that one of the accused, Kushal Mahali, has since passed away. With the verdict now reserved, the court will focus on determining the appropriate punishment for the 10 individuals found guilty. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 5th, during which the court will announce the penalties to be imposed.
