Jamshedpur, July 25: A strong wave of religious commitment was emerging in the Sikh community following the recent Hukamnama issued by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the highest temporal authority in Sikhism. On Thursday, Gyani Harvinder Singh Jamshedpuri, a young Sikh preacher and thinker, called on the Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC) to enforce the directive across all 34 Gurudwaras in the Kolhan region without delay.

The Hukamnama, issued by Jathedar Gyani Kuldeep Singh Gadgaj, mandated that all Gurudwara management members became Amritdhari Sikhs by September 1, 2025. Additionally, dyeing hair or beard and tying beard had been strictly prohibited. Non-compliance would lead to the cancellation of membership from Gurudwara management bodies.

Supporting the order, Gyani Jamshedpuri described it as a historic step towards restoring Sikh identity and discipline. “This should be treated as an emotional, religious, and social responsibility, and implemented strictly in every Gurudwara,” he said.

He planned to meet CGPC President Sardar Bhagwan Singh and submit a written memorandum seeking the Hukamnama’s full implementation. He also appealed to all Gurudwara managers to induct only Amritdhari Sikhs into their executive bodies and lead by example.

Highlighting the negative impact of modern lifestyle and fashion on Sikh identity, Gyani Jamshedpuri stated, “Gurubani clearly emphasizes that Sikhs must remain Keshdhari and Amritdhari in their natural form. Unfortunately, many youth are drifting from their roots, which is deeply concerning.”

While this Hukamnama was currently directed at committees affiliated to Chief Khalsa Diwan, it was considered applicable to all Takht Sahib and Gurudwara committees. Hence, its effective enforcement in Kolhan had now become CGPC’s responsibility.

This move was seen as a significant milestone in reaffirming Sikh values, identity, and religious discipline.
