Jadugora, Oct 29: Jadugora police arrested Devnath alias Deva, the right hand of Kamal Singh, prime accused of the Rs 1500 crore chit fund scam of Jadugora from Kolkata on Saturday. The accused was forwarded to judicial custody at Ghatsila. He was reportedly on the run since 2013 and was earning a livelihood in Kolkata.
Sanjeev Jha, officer-in-charge of Jadugora police station, said the accused had confessed his involvement in the scam. “We were looking for the accused for the last one month. After finding out his whereabouts and getting confirmation, we arrested him,” he said.
Around 12 persons were made accused in the chit fund scam. Other accused are on the bail.
Former UCIL employee Kamal Singh had started the chit fund scheme which turned into the biggest chit fund scam of the state.
