ISA conference to focus on enhancing quality of patient safety: Dr. DP Samaddar

Jamshedpur to host 27th ISACON East Zone and 30th Bihar-Jharkhand from Oct 13

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur is all set to host the 27th Eastern Zonal Conference of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiology (ISACON East Zone) and 30th ISACON Bihar-Jharkhand from 13-15th October 2017 after 11 years.

The Jamshedpur branch of ISA will host the conference which is expected to be attended by over 350 specialists in Anaesthesiology & Critical Care. The conference workshop and CME Lectures will be conducted by noted academicians from across the country, including those from the East Zone (Bihar-Jharkhand, Odisha & West Bengal) states, said Dr. DP Samaddar, Chief of Indoor Medical Services, TMH and patron of ISA.

Addressing a press conference at TMH on Thursday morning, Dr. Samaddar said, the theme for this years� conference is �Quality Excellence in Anaesthesia�. ‘Anaesthesiology is acknowledged worldwide as the leading medical specialty in addressing issues of patient safety. The deliberations would try to focus on how quality of patient care can be enhanced by changes in processes, behavioral changes and by adhering to the adopted clinical protocols.

This would in-turn results in enhanced patient safety and better outcomes during surgery’, added anaesthetist.

Dr. Deb Sanjay Nag, organising secretary, said, during the conference focus will be on patient safety with use nano technology and there has been enormous technological development in Anaesthesia in the last 15-20 years.

‘Anaesthesia related deaths in serious case are 1-2 % worldwide while 22 to 24000 surgeries are performed in TMH every year and figure here is around 1%. World of anaesthesia and the world of aviation are said to be similar’, added Dr. Nag.
Talking about the conference, Dr. Shashi Kant, organising president, said, the 3 day conference would start with 4 hands-on workshops on 13th October.

An Ultrasound Guided Regional Anaesthesia workshop by Prof. (Dr) V.K.Mohan and his team from AIIMS, New Delhi, a Haemodynamic Monitoring Workshop by Dr. Subhendu Sarkar Head of Cardiac Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care and his team from B.M.Birla Heart Research Centre, Kolkata and Communication Skills Workshop by Dr. Sukhdev Nayak, HOD, Anaesthesiology at AIIMS Bhubaneswar will be conducted at Tata Main Hospital.

He further said that the fourth workshop on Interventional Procedures for Chronic Pain will be at Tata Motors Hospital by Dr. Subroto Goswami from Kolkata and Dr. Ashok Jadon from Tata Motors Hospital.

The scientific deliberations will be held on 14th and 15th October 2017 at the SNTI, Bistupur. It will involve over 130 faculty members involved in lectures, symposia, panel discussions, pro-con debates on various topics.

Apart from the Head of the Departments from various medical colleges in the eastern zone, the conference would also be attended by eminent delegates like National President of Indian Society of Anaesthesiology, Dr.Bibhuti Bhusan Mishra, Principal of Patna Medical College, Dr.Vijay Kumar Gupta, Dr.Bibhukalyani Das, Director Academics at Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata and Dr.Pradip Kumar Bhattacharya, who also happens to be the National Secretary-Elect of Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM), added Dr. Kant.

Dr. D.P.Samaddar would be delivering the Prof. (Dr) S.N.Pramanik Memorial Oration on the conference theme itself. The conference would also involve multiple competitive research and scientific papers and presentation for the best Young Anaesthesiologist (Dr.Ashok Kr.Gupta Best Paper Award) for young anaesthesiologists from Bihar-Jharkhand less than 40 years.

The Inaugural function will be 6 PM at SNTI Auditorium on 14th October 2017. Sunil Bhaskaran, Vice President Corporate Services, Tata Steel will be the Chief Guest and Air Marshal (Dr) Rajan Chaudhry, AVSM, VSM (Retd.) will be the Guest of Honor, informed Dr. Kant.
