IAPWC leader pledges to work for women rights at workplaces

Jamshedpur: Industrial Asia Pacific Women Committee (IAPWC) is all set to prevent violation of rights of women at their workplace. This was said today by Devika Singh, a senior leader of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC). She has been appointed as vice president of the said committee.

The newly appointed IAPWC functionary said she will work to ensure maternity right to women, sustainability, minimum wage, social protection, security at workplace to women employees in organized and unorganized sector. She will work for improvement of women workers in all around 22 countries of Asia.

The women wing of IndustriAll Global Union, will have executive committee meeting from June 22 to 27 in Geneva. Singh and other members of the union will discuss, at the said meeting, on how to improve women workers� condition in Asia.

Devika Singh said, �In a survey, conducted by the global Union, it was unearthed that a large number of women had joined job in various sectors in all around the world after 2000 but 70 percent of them had left job. Around 40 percent of them had resigned due to marriage or transfer of their partners while 30 percent quit due to job change�.

She added that women workers in all around Asia face similar nature of problems at job places. They are deprived of equal pay for equal job, due safety, etc. The IAPWC will educate the women workers about their right and motivate them to fight for the same, she added.

IndustriAll Global Union is working on to ensure rights to women workers in all around the globe and an international level review meeting will be conducted in this regard in 2016. Outcomes of this meeting will be implemented for improving women workers� condition in the world.

�Being a vice president of IAPWC, I will ensure that we provide a platform to women workers for fighting all sorts of injustice at workplace, form a networking system for them, motivate them to take leadership and upgrade themselves with regards to enjoy women rights,� she said.
