Jamshedpur: Tata Motors is all set to revolutionize transportation with hydrogen-powered buses, featuring engines manufactured at Tata Cummins’ Jamshedpur plant. The company confirmed that trials for the eco-friendly buses will soon commence, with a formal launch of hydrogen-powered trucks scheduled for March 2025.
Sharing the milestone, a Tata Motors spokesperson said, “We are proud to introduce hydrogen-powered vehicles that align with India’s vision for sustainable mobility.” At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Tata Motors showcased its hydrogen internal combustion engine technology, marking a significant leap in green energy solutions.
The buses will initially operate between Jamshedpur and Kalinganagar, followed by routes like Mumbai-Pune and Mumbai-Ahmedabad. “This initiative will not only facilitate smoother travel but also contribute to a cleaner environment,” the spokesperson added.
Tata Cummins Private Limited (TCPL), through its subsidiary Green Energy Solutions, has been developing low and zero-emission propulsion technologies since March 2023. The hydrogen-powered engines are designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.
Residents and environmentalists have hailed the move as transformative. “This is a major step in reducing the carbon footprint of public transport,” said Arjun Mishra, an environmental activist.
