Jamshedpur: D.B.M.S. College of Education celebrated Swami Vivekananda Jayanti on January 11, 2025, with enthusiasm and grandeur. Students and teachers participated in large numbers to honor the life and teachings of the great philosopher.
The highlight was the inspirational speech by Principal Dr. Joohi Samarpita, who shed light on the enduring relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts for today’s youth.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Samarpita emphasized the importance of holistic development, stating, “Academic knowledge alone is not enough; mental, physical, and spiritual growth is essential to lead a complete and fulfilling life.” Quoting Kabir’s couplet, “Pothi padhi padhi jag mua, pandit bhaya na koi,” she urged students to focus on practical knowledge that benefits others and emphasized that the true purpose of education is not merely acquiring degrees but becoming good and useful human beings.

Dr. Samarpita also spoke about the profound relationship between Swami Vivekananda and his guru, Ramakrishna Paramhansa. She highlighted how Ramakrishna’s teachings inspired Swami Vivekananda toward self-realization and truth, enabling him to present Indian culture and spirituality on the global stage. Referring to the iconic Vivekananda Rock Memorial at Kanyakumari, she said, “This memorial symbolizes Swami Vivekananda’s determination, dedication, and inspiring thoughts, which continue to energize us even today.”
The principal concluded by urging students to imbibe Swami Vivekananda’s ideals and work toward becoming well-rounded individuals, ready to contribute meaningfully to society.
The event included creative educational activities, with students showcasing their talents through poetry, videos, and presentations. Principal appreciated their efforts and urged them to adopt Swami Vivekananda’s teachings in life.

Earlier, the program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by College Secretary Sripriya Dharmarajan, Co-Secretary Sudha Dilip, Principal Dr. Joohi Samarpita, and members of the management committee, symbolizing a tribute to Swami Vivekananda.
This was followed by spiritual bhajans and aarti, presented by music teacher Amrita Chaudhary and students Ayush Parashar, Asai Kalundia, Srishti Kumari, and others, creating an inspiring atmosphere.
The event featured a speech by Ankita Kumari, poetry recitation by Anindita Maiti, and a PowerPoint presentation by Varsha Srivastava, Sweta Jha, and Muskan Kumari, all highlighting Swami Vivekananda’s ideals.
