Ranchi, May 10: Four migrant workers, who recently returned to Hazaribagh and Giridih districts in Jharkhand, have tested positive for novel coronavirus, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state to 160, health officials said on Sunday. With a positive on Sunday, Green Zone Hazaribagh has been turned into Orange Zone.
Mumbai returned Hazaribagh worker’s samples were tested at the state-run Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here and reports have returned positive, they said.
The man has been admitted to an isolation ward of a Hazaribagh hospital, Hazaribagh Sadar Sub-divisional Officer Megha Bharadwaj said.
38-year-old Corona patient is a resident of Barakatha area of Hazaribagh and had returned from Mumbai couple of days back. He along with four migrants of Giridih came back in a Bolero SUV. Earlier, three Coronavirus patients from Hazariabgh have recovered from the disease and gave been discharged from the hospital. Of the three, two were from Vishnugarh and another was from Barkagaon. The migrant worker was kept at Barhi quarantine centre as and when his report came negative he was admitted to Hazaribagh Medical College COVID-19 Hospital. According to district officials the patients family members have been quarantined and their samples have been taken for Corona test. His village has been sealed and is being sanitized. The medical team is camping in his village.
In another case reported late on Sunday night, three migrants who returned to Giridih tested positive for Coronavirus after their test at PMCH, Dhanbad. Of the three Giridih patients, two are resident of Birni and in the age group of 31 to 34 years. Another person is 40 years old and lives in Jamua area of Giridih.
Earlier, two COVID-19 cases were reported in Dhanbad on Saturday, May 9. The mother-son duo resident of Jamadoba Punjabi area of Jharia had returned from Mumbai after undergoing treatment. Both have been admitted to Central Hospital, BCCL.
Meanwhile, RIMS Director Dr D K Singh said only the Hazaribagh resident tested positive for COVID-19 out of 629 samples tested at the institute during the day.
A total of 76 persons are still afflicted with the disease in the state while 78 persons have recovered, the health officials said.
Earlier on late Friday evening, twenty-two migrant workers who returned to Jharkhand have tested positive for the coronavirus disease in the highest single-day tally of Covid-19 cases in the eastern state. According to a bulletin issued by the state�s health department, 20 cases were reported in Garhwa and two in Koderma districts on Friday evening.
Out of the total 160 positive cases so far, 93 are from Ranchi, 23 from Garhwa, 10 from Bokaro, 8 from Palamau, five from Giridih, four each from Deoghar, Dhanbad and Hazaribagh, �two each from Jamtara, Simdega, Koderma and Dumka. One person from Godda has also tested positive for coronavirus.
Jharkhand has reported three deaths due to coronavirus so far. The first case of the pandemic was reported from Hindpiri on March 31, when a 22-year-old Malaysian woman, who had been to Delhi�s Tablighi Jamaat congregation, tested positive. She has since been discharged after being recorded from the dreaded disease.
Ranchi has been designated as �Red Zone� while nine other districts of Jharkhand are in the �Orange Zone� of novel coronavirus. The rest 14 districts are in the Green Zone.
The Centre has classified districts with high load of coronavirus cases or which have a high growth rate of the disease in the red zones, while those with considerably fewer cases of the respiratory infection fall in orange zones. Districts with no coronavirus cases are categorised as green zones.
Capital Ranchi which accounts for 93 out of a total of 160 Covid cases in Jharkhand is the only district to fall under red zone in the state.
The Hindpiri locality in Ranchi is worst affected by the virus. This hotspot area is being manned by the CRPF personnel.
