Jamshedpur, Feb 25: A domestic dispute took a tragic and violent turn in Kacha village under Bagbera police station area on Tuesday night, when a younger brother allegedly hacked his elder sibling to death with an axe following a heated altercation at home.
According to police sources, the incident occurred inside the house after a quarrel escalated beyond control.
The deceased, identified as Sheru Mardi, was engaged in farming and supported the family through agriculture.
He was reportedly addicted to alcohol.
Late on Tuesday night, Sheru returned home in an inebriated state and allegedly entered into a dispute with his father over an unspecified issue.
The argument quickly intensified, creating a tense atmosphere inside the house. Hearing the commotion, his younger brother, Manish Mardi, intervened in an attempt to pacify the situation.
However, the confrontation reportedly spiralled further. In a fit of rage, Manish allegedly picked up an axe kept nearby and attacked his elder brother repeatedly.
Sheru sustained grievous injuries and collapsed on the spot, bleeding profusely, triggering panic and chaos within the household.
Family members rushed him to MGM Medical College and Hospital in Jamshedpur. Owing to the critical nature of his injuries, doctors referred him to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, for advanced treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Sheru succumbed to his injuries at around 1:30 am during treatment.
On receiving information, the police reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
The accused, Manish Mardi, was arrested and later remanded to judicial custody.
A case of murder has been registered, and the blood-stained axe used in the crime has been seized as evidence.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
The shocking incident has cast a pall of gloom over Kacha village, leaving residents stunned. What began as a family quarrel ended in irreversible tragedy, underscoring how unchecked anger can lead to devastating consequences.
