Jharkhand HC Clears Way for Trial Against Kamlesh Singh’s Family

Money Laundering Case

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has dismissed the criminal revision petitions filed by the family of former minister Kamlesh Singh, effectively clearing the way for a trial in a ₹5.83 crore money laundering case.

A bench led by Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay passed the order on Wednesday, vacating the stay on proceedings. The decision impacts the former minister’s wife, Madhu Singh; his son, Surya Sonal Singh; his daughter, Ankita Singh; and son-in-law, Narendra Mohan Singh.

Allegations and Legal History

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged that the family acquired assets through illegal means during Kamlesh Singh’s tenure as a minister and attempted to project them as legitimate income. The case, which dates back to October 2009, involves the alleged laundering of ₹5.83 crore.

The family had moved the High Court to challenge the continuation of the trial after a previous discharge petition was rejected in 2017. With the latest High Court dismissal, the special ED court in Ranchi is now authorized to resume the trial, where charges have already been framed.
