Hazaribagh’s Geetanjali tops Jharkhand in JAC Class 10 Exam, 7 girls secure spots in top 10 list

7 girls from one Hazaribagh school among state’s top 10 matric toppers

Ranchi, May 27: The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) announced the Class 10 board examination results on Tuesday, with students from Hazaribagh’s Indira Gandhi Girls High School dominating the merit list. Out of the top 10 scorers in the state, seven are from this school, and all of them are girls — a remarkable achievement that has drawn widespread appreciation.

Topping the state is Geetanjali Kumari from Indira Gandhi Girls High School, Hazaribagh, who secured an impressive 98.60% by scoring 493 out of 500 marks. She has not only brought pride to her school and family but also become an inspiration for students across Jharkhand. Geetanjali comes from a modest background,  her father, Umesh Pal, is a para teacher. Despite limited resources, her dedication and determination led to this outstanding performance. She is the eldest of three siblings, with two sisters and a younger brother.

Geetanjali’s subject-wise marks include 100 in Music, 100 in Science, 99 in English, 98 in Mathematics, 96 in Social Science, and 87 in Sanskrit. Her success has gone viral on social media, with many praising her as a role model for hardworking students from underprivileged backgrounds.

The second position was jointly secured by four students, each scoring 491 marks (98.20%). Among them were Ritu Kumari, Amrita Gupta, and Pooja Kumari — all from Indira Gandhi Girls High School, Hazaribagh. The fourth student, Amar Kumar, is from Prop V High School, Tilaiya Rangatand, making him the only male student in the top five.

Shivani Kumari, also from Indira Gandhi Girls High School, stood third with 489 marks (97.80%). Another high scorer with the same marks is Vikas Pramanik from High School, Baghmara, Baliapur.

Two more girls from Indira Gandhi Girls High School, Shreya Kumari and Sakshi Kumari scored 488 marks (97.60%) and secured places in the top 10. Rounding off the list is Shubham Kumar Patra of Plus Two Adivasi High School, Bangurda, who scored 487 marks (97.40%).

The school management and faculty of Indira Gandhi Girls High School have congratulated all the toppers, expressing immense pride in their students’ consistent academic excellence. Many educationists have also applauded the school’s role in fostering an environment conducive to girl’s education and academic success.

Education Minister Ramdas Soren released the Class 10 results at the JAC office in Ranchi. This year, the overall pass percentage increased to 91.71%, a 1.31% rise from last year’s 90.40%. Out of 433,944 students who registered for the exam, 431,488 appeared, and 395,755 passed.

Among the successful students, 221,040 secured first division, 157,194 second division, and 17,521 third division. The examinations were conducted between February 11 and March 9 across 1,297 centers. Practical exams were held from March 4 to March 20.

The state has witnessed a notable improvement in student performance this year, particularly among girls. The remarkable results from Hazaribagh, especially Indira Gandhi Girls High School,  highlight the growing impact of quality education and empowerment initiatives in rural Jharkhand.

With girls outshining boys and a Hazaribagh school producing seven of the top 10 students, the 2025 JAC Matric results have become a milestone moment for Jharkhand’s educational journey.
