Jamshedpur, Nov 29: Criticizing Narendra Modi led BJP Government in Centre, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday alleged that Modi Government is eying coal of Jharkhand to meet their vested interests.
She said that the saffron party is desperate to come to power just to fulfill its needs.
Gandhi was addressing an election rally at Jalla College Ground of Patamda under Jugsalai Assembly constituency, 40 KM from Jamshedpur. She said that after handing land at cheaper price to the Adani Group in Gujarat, Modi Government is now eying the coal of Jharkhand. She cautioned the people to beware of such hidden agenda of the BJP.
Addressing a poll meeting in support of her candidate from Jugsalai (SC) Dulal Bhuyan, Gandhi further alleged that the Modi government harbours plans to “weaken” the Right to Information Act, MGNREGA and Land Acquisition Act.
The previous UPA government, she added, enacted the acts in the interest of tribals and dalits. Flaying Modi on the tribal issue, Gandhi alleged that “the BJP does exactly the opposite to what it says. “Gujarat has eight per cent tribal population, but a majority of them were displaced because of the state government’s acquisition of land to extend benefit to capitalists,” Gandhi said.
“I want to caution you about the people who are trying to rob the natural resources of Jharkhand. The BJP had made claims that they will bring back the black money to the country in 100 days. What happened to the claim.
The Government has increased prices of several life saving medicines which were much cheaper during the Congress rule just to benefit some of the private companies,” claimed Gandhi.
She also criticised the Jan Dhan Yojna and said that of the six crore accounts opened all over the country five crore accounts are running without any money.
The Union government had nothing new to offer. Addressing a gathering of about 10,000 people she said that the BJP was in power in Jharkhand for the most number of years but despite all claims they failed to ensure development and progress.
She said that agriculture is one such area where there can be immense possibilities in areas like Patamda and steps should be taken to promote it. She said that if Congress is voted to power, the party will ensure inclusive growth of the people.
She claimed that the BJP is not concern about effective human development in Jharkhand or else it would have utilized funds allotted by UPA Government.
The Congress President said that the UPA government had tried to give the people of Jharkhand a number of schemes like the MNREGA and rural electrification programme, but BJP governments did not let them reach the people.
Gandhi appealed to the people to give the Congress a majority this time as the BJP-led governments had “looted” Jharkhand while promising development in the mineral-rich state if voted to power Under Modi rule the inflation has also increased but Congress wants to grow Jharkhand as the most developed state of the country and empower each and every person of the state.
