Gurudwaras should be centers of service, not power: Preacher Harvinder Singh Jamshedpuri

Jamshedpur, June 17: Raising concerns over rising disputes within the Sikh community regarding gurudwara leadership, young religious thinker and preacher Harvinder Singh Jamshedpuri has appealed for a return to the core values of service, humility, and devotion. In a statement on Tuesday, he emphasized that the selection of chief sevadars should be based on selfless service, not on leadership ambitions.

He announced plans to submit suggestions to Sardar Bhagwan Singh, Chief Sevadar of the Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC), urging for a more transparent and effective code of conduct.

Citing Sikh history, Harvinder Singh lamented the shift from sacrifice and unity to power struggles and ego, which he called deeply unfortunate. He proposed excluding individuals involved in controversies or indebted to the Gurughar from management roles to preserve the sanctity of Sikh institutions.

This comes amid growing factionalism in Jamshedpur’s gurudwaras. His call has sparked a positive response from many within the Sikh community, with hopes that the CGPC would soon act on his recommendations.
