Ranchi: In a significant move reflecting compassion towards unorganized laborers, the Hemant Soren government of Jharkhand has announced additional benefits for workers in the unorganized sector. During a recent cabinet meeting, the government unveiled new facilities to complement existing schemes, with a focus on health, livelihood, and overall well-being.
Under the revamped Treatment Livelihood Assistance Scheme, unskilled category workers admitted to hospitals for five or more working days will now receive a financial boost equivalent to the minimum wages set by the Jharkhand government. This amount, capped at a maximum of 40 working days, will be disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
In a bid to enhance safety and productivity, the Chief Minister Unorganized Workers Tool Assistance Scheme will provide a lump sum financial aid of Rs 5,000 to each beneficiary for the purchase of safety and tool kits. This assistance will be granted through DBT every three years.
Women workers aged 18 to 45, not benefiting from previous schemes, will receive Rs 7,000 through DBT under the Cycle Assistance Scheme for Workers to purchase bicycles. Furthermore, the Sewing Machine Assistance Scheme offers Rs 6,000 to workers aged 35 to 60 for the purchase of sewing machines from reputed companies.
A noteworthy initiative is the Marriage Assistance Scheme for Government Workers, wherein registered beneficiaries will receive Rs 30,000 via DBT for the marriage of two children and financial support for the female member’s marriage.
