Girls� Day celebrated at Tetla

Jamshedpur, Jan 24: Social organization Youth Unity for Voluntary Action (YUVA) in association with KRIYA today organized Girls� Day celebration at the Tetla Ground. Sports and cultural programmes were organized on the occasion. Young Gudiya Nayak recited a poem, �O� Ladki Tu Dabang Ho Ja� (O� Girl, become a woman of clout) to thunderous applause of the audience. Girls associated with IMC, women Panchayat members and health officials were also present on the occasion.

The programme commenced with YUVA secretary Barnali Chakraborty explaining the importance of Girl�s Day or �Balika Divas.� She told the girls to fight for and win their rights and if necessary snatch them to put an end to disparity in society.

Suchismita Mandal of KRIYA spoke on the valor of Savitri Bai Phule who took up education as a weapon to fight social disparity and discrimination against women.  Anjana Devgam of YUVA also spoke on Savitri Bai. Later a quiz on Savitri Bai Phule was organized for the girls. Others who spoke on Balika Divas included Tetla Panchayat Mukhiya Dipantari Sardar, Champi Panchayat Samiti member Dukhni Mai Sardar, Purnima Hembram,  Pano Sardar from Judi, Kokila Murmu of Karandih, Lakshmi Sardar and Avanti Sardar. Girls from Karandih played the tribal percussion drums, Madal, which had people tapping their feet. �In and Out� was another event which the girls enjoyed participating in. in the tug-o-war event Mahila Panchayat representatives beat self help group team.

The events were anchored by Kavita Birua. The team of organizers comprised Anjana Devgam, Monika Pramanik, Jyoti Hembram, Chandrakala Munda, Kokila Murmu, Priya, Mamata, Gurucharan and Anil Bodra.
