Shocking misconduct exposed at Gamharia police station

Investigative findings into the rape at Gamharia police station have revealed shocking details of misconduct and administrative failure.
Sub-Inspector Kumari Tilottama is investigating the case under a Special Investigation Team led by the SDPO. Investigators found that wireless operator Neeraj Lakra regularly hosted illegal gatherings involving alcohol and women inside the station.
On the night of the incident, Lakra consumed liquor and food in his room before committing the crime. Regulations prohibit a wireless operator from directly meeting any complainant or petitioner at the police station.
Authorities have sealed Lakra’s room, where a liquor bottle remains clearly visible. Nearby officers failed to intervene during the assault because female visitors frequently visited the room.
The Special Investigation Team found evidence of tacit approval by officers on duty. Duty Officer Manoj Kumar Sahu and Constable Santosh Kumar Rai ignored the crime entirely.
Police arrested both Sahu and Rai for their inaction and sent them to jail. Lakra has also been jailed for his direct involvement in the assault.
The administration suspended fifteen police personnel for severe negligence, including former Station House Officer Sanjay Prasad. New SHO Rajesh Tudu now manages the station with only a skeletal staff remaining.
A heavy silence has fallen over the Gamharia police station following these arrests. Public trust has collapsed, leading to a sharp drop in visitors seeking police assistance. Citizens now hesitate to approach the premises due to the severe breach of security and official integrity.
