Jamshedpur: Passengers and the general public will soon have access to affordable generic medicines at the second entry gate of Tatanagar Railway Station, located on the Burma Mines side. Railways have identified a location near the computer reservation centre, and construction work for the store has already begun.
Station Manager Sunil Kumar confirmed the development, stating, “The generic medicine store will provide essential medicines at affordable prices to passengers during their journey. We aim to ensure better healthcare access for everyone.”
This initiative is part of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), launched in 2008 by the Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. The scheme focuses on making quality generic medicines available to the public at lower prices.
The store at Tatanagar is expected to become operational by the last week of December. It will offer a range of medicines along with basic medical facilities. Earlier, a similar store was inaugurated at Sini railway station.
The responsibility for running the Tatanagar store has been assigned to a Patna-based agency. With this addition, South Eastern Railway continues its efforts to enhance passenger amenities and healthcare accessibility.
The upcoming facility is being seen as a significant step in addressing healthcare needs, especially for travellers and local residents seeking affordable medical solutions.
