Gangster Akhilesh and Garima produced in court, remanded for two days

Jamshedpur: Police on Friday produced gangster Akhilesh Singh and his wife Garima Singh before the court and prayed for their remand. Akhilesh, wanted in over 50 cases of murder and extortion, and Garima were produced before the court of first class judicial magistrate Pragya Bajpai in connection with a cheating case registered with the Birsanagar police station earlier this year.

Akhilesh and Garima were brought to the court around 11.30 am from Jugsalai police station. Akhilesh was later taken to the nearby MGM Hospital for treatment of his injured knee. He and Garima were later sent to Jugsalai PS.

The defence counsel pleaded the court for better medical treatment of Akhilesh even as the prosecution sought a 10 day police remand for the gangster. The court granted two day remand for the accused persons.

Police had on Thursday late evening brought Akhilesh and Garima to the city on a transit remand from Gurgaon by the Jammu Tawi Express. The two were arrested by a joint team of Jharkhand and Haryana police from a guesthouse in Gurgaon on October 11 last. Akhilesh sustained bullet wounds in both legs in retaliatory firing and was admitted to hospital. He and Garima were later sent to Bhondsi jail in Haryana.

Soon after Akhilesh�s arrival in city, SSP Anoop T Mathew and SP City Prashant Anand interrogated him in connection with various crimes allegedly committed by him and his associates. The interrogation continued for several hours till late, sources said.

Akhilesh had stepped into the crime world by abducting lubricant merchant Om Prakash Kabra on July 21, 2001. After his name figured in the Kabra abduction case, he had surrendered in the court on August 6, 2001. He fled the judicial custody on February 18, 2002. He was arrested from Varanasi on October 7, 2004. On September 2, 2007, he was granted a parole for attending his ailing mother.
