Jamshedpur: In a broad daylight incident, unidentified bike-borne assailants shot at a 35-year-old Congress supporter near Tagore Academy at Sakchi on Friday.
The injured, identified as Baldev Singh, a resident of Daiguttu under Mango police station, had come to pick up his 11-year-old son Sahil Singh, a class V student of Tagore Academy.
He was speaking to other parents when four youths riding two bikes with their faces covered opened fire on him and fled the spot as the parents started shouting.
Parents took the bleeding Baldev Singh in an auto-rickshaw to the Tata Main Hospital, where he was bleeding profusely. SP city PrashantAnand, who rushed to the hospital, said the incident could be the result of old enmity.
“We are investigating the incident. The injured youth is out of danger and according to doctors two bullets are still inside the victim’s body. As per doctors, the victim is out of danger. The victim was recently released on bail from Ghagidih jail. It appears to be the outcome of the old enmity between the two parties,” said the SP.
Importantly, a BJP leader, Manish Pathak alias Chhotu Pandit, also a resident of Daiguttu, was shot dead in front of his house in October 2015. Baldev Singh, his uncle Ved Prakash Singh and nephew Tej Pratap Singh were made accused in this case.
“We were shocked as the school children who came out in large number would have been fired after dispersal hours then several students would have been injured.
We are relieved that the incident took place few minutes before the school broke for the day. It shows a total collapse of law and order in the city,” said a parent.
